Start your self-guided kayak adventure from Kayak Beach at Willow Beach Marina and paddle through the stunning Black Canyon to the iconic Emerald Cave—entirely at your own pace.

After a quick check-in, you’ll be set up with your kayak, paddle, and life vest before pushing off into the calm, crystal-clear waters of the Colorado River. From there, the experience is yours to shape. Take your time as you move through the canyon, where towering rock walls surround you and the quiet of the river creates a peaceful escape just outside of Las Vegas.

Keep an eye out along the shoreline for desert bighorn sheep, or look up to spot bald eagles soaring overhead. With no set schedule or group to follow, you’re free to stop whenever you’d like—whether it’s to take in the views, snap photos, or simply enjoy the stillness of the canyon.

The highlight of your paddle is reaching the Emerald Cave, where sunlight reflects off the water to create its signature glowing green effect. Spend as much time as you’d like taking photos and enjoying the moment before making your way back to Kayak Beach.

Check-in starts at 9:00 AM to give you enough time to enjoy the full trip. All rentals must be returned by 1:30 PM.

If you are not back by the required return time, park staff may initiate a welfare check, which could result in additional fees. Please plan your time accordingly.

Parking is available at Willow Beach Marina. The Lake Mead National Recreation Area entrance fee is $25 per vehicle.

From the parking area, it’s a short walk to Kayak Beach, where the tour begins.

Parking can fill up on weekends and holidays, so arriving early is recommended.
